President Trump issues his first veto over national emergency rejection, live stream

Trump wants to use the emergency order to divert billions of federal dollars earmarked for defence spending towards the southern border wall

Congressional critics do not appear to have the votes to override Trump's veto.

While Congress is unlikely to muster the votes to override the veto, the rebuke from some members of his own party left Trump politically wounded, at least temporarily, as immigration and his planned wall along the US southern border become a flashpoint again in the 2020 presidential campaign.

Trump wants to use the emergency order to redirect billions in federal dollars earmarked for defense spending toward the southern border wall.

"I look forward to VETOING the just passed Democrat inspires Resolution which would OPEN BORDERS while increasing Crime, Drugs, and Trafficking in our Country", Trump tweeted shortly after the Senate passed the resolution condemning Trump's unilateral action. "This is not about the president or border security, in fact I support border security, I support a barrier". Declaring a national emergency allows Trump to steer an extra $3.6 billion to the wall.

Lee, meanwhile, had introduced a bill that would end future emergency declarations after 30 days, in an effort to allow Republicans to vote against the resolution.

In declaring an emergency on February 15, Trump cited drug smuggling across the border from Mexico (misleading), the drop in crime in El Paso, Texas, after a partial border barricade was built there (not true) and reports of women kidnapped, bound with tape and trafficked into the United States across unguarded sections of the border (no evidence exists of this). "Watch, when you get back to your State, they will LOVE you more than ever before!"

Could the oil Industry in India See Higher Profits?
One of the issues for Indian oil companies is their requirement to sell below market to subsidize prices in their home country. The US pulled out of the agreement earlier this year as President Trump claimed he was looking for a better deal.

She also says the president "is incredibly disappointed" with Republicans who voted against him.

Alexander added that he shares the president's goal of border security, but warned allowing Trump to redirect money without authorization could set a unsafe precedent. Last month, roughly 76,000 people tried, including 43,000 children and family members, many fleeing violence and poverty in Central America.

The emergency declaration is being challenged in court as an unconstitutional usurpation of Congress' power of the purse.

Trump insists he's on solid legal ground, however.

The President was flanked by DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Attorney General William Barr and number of other law enforcement officials.
