Siena Poll: Voters Say Amazon Cancelling Queens HQ Bad For NY

The poll, conducted by the Siena College Research Institute in March, also found that large majorities of ny residents favored Amazon's now scuttled plan to open a second headquarters in Queens, and thought that Amazon's decision to abandon the project-thanks in no small part to Ocasio-Cortez's aggressive opposition-would be bad for ny.

Another 34 percent said Ocasio-Cortez's local activist allies were the main villains, while 29 percent blamed New York City's unpopular Mayor Bill de Blasio and 28 percent blamed Democratic Gov.

"However, voters say the biggest villain was Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez", he highlighted. Only 12 percent of those who responded to the poll said they consider the first-term Democrat a "hero".

Ocasio-Cortez' district encompasses Queens, and on the day the company announced its withdrawal, she declared in that tweet that New Yorkers "defeated Amazon's corporate greed" through their activism. The poll also found New Yorkers considered the deal's cancellation bad for NY by a margin of 67-21 percent.

A new Siena College poll covers a range of issues, from what NY residents think of the fall of the Amazon deal in Queens, to vaccinations and marijuana legalization.

The Seattle-based company announced a year ago it would build two satellite headquarters on the east coast - one in NY and one in Washington D.C. Amazon said it will continue moving forward on plans to build its second headquarters in the D.C. suburb of Arlington.

In response to a similar Gallup poll released last week, which found the lawmaker underwater with white voters and men, the congresswoman argued that Fox News is to blame for her deep unpopularity among conservatives.

Defeat of final Islamic State bastion in Syria imminent, Trump says
The jihadists have been putting up a desperate fight, their notorious propaganda machine working even on the brink of collapse. But even after Baghouz's fall, IS maintains a scattered presence and sleeper cells that threaten a continuing insurgency.

"At least 63 percent of Democrats, Republicans and independents, upstaters and downstaters, men and women, young and old, black and white New Yorkers agree: Amazon pulling out of Queens was bad for NY". And it was Ocasio-Cortez who led the way under the "villain" category.

The survey included questions on several other issues being debated at the state Legislature, including the legalization of recreational marijuana and whether immigrants who entered the country illegally should be allowed obtain drivers licenses.

Among respondents, twice as many supported the deal Amazon was prepared to make, 61%-30%.

More than half of voters say NY is too far to the Left....

Ocasio-Cortez has received outsized media attention from both news outlets across the political spectrum ever since she won her June 2018 primary.

Right-wing groups were quick to point the finger at Ocasio-Cortez for Amazon's decision. There is an overwhelming feeling that its cancellation was bad for the state. The Amazon deal was seen as very contentious, however, there was strong support for it last month, before it got canceled. "Clearly, jobs outweigh the cost of government incentives in the minds of most voters". "59 percent to 25 percent, supported by Democrats and Republicans by nearly equal margins".
