Is that accurate? Are y'all hyped about this one? The Sopranos series creator David Chase is co-producing and writing with Lawrence Konner. Though the original series often employed flashbacks to this particular era in Newark history, it's unknown if any of the actors who portrayed younger versions of Soprano wiseguys will be reprising their roles for the film.

Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen and John Magaro will also star in the prequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Newark" is set in the 1960s during the Newark riots, five days of violence in the New Jersey city sparked by the beating of a black man by white police officers. He directed nine episodes of "The Sopranos" throughout its lifespan, in addition to seven episodes of "Game of Thrones", as well as feature films "Thor: The Dark World" and "Terminator Genisys".

Production on "The Sopranos" prequel "Newark" is expected to start sometime in May with the release date now confirmed for next year.
