Titans acquire Tannehill from Dolphins

Dolphins trade quarterback Ryan Tannehill to Tennessee
				Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins have traded quarterback Ryan Tannehill to the Tennessee Titans, Tannehill's agency Sports Trust Advisors announced Friday.

Tannehill has signed a new one-year contract for $7 million guaranteed and worth up to $12 million with incentives, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source informed of the deal. The Dolphins are receiving a seventh-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and a 2020 fourth-round pick.

The Dolphins chose to move on from Tannehill earlier this offseason and they've spent the last few weeks actively pursuing a trade.

Tannehill will become a well-accomplished backup for Marcus Mariota in Tennessee.

Tannehill will leave a $13.4 million dead cap on Dolphins salary cap in 2019.

Ex-Jets DT Mike Pennel joins Patriots
He played in 16 games in each of the last two seasons for the Jets, totaling 10 starts while tallying 62 tackles. In 2017, Pennel recorded 35 tackles, while in 2018 he had 27 tackles and a pass defense.

Somehow, general manager Chris Grier managed to finalize a deal to send Tannehill to reunite in Nashville with fellow former Dolphin Cameron Wake, who signed a 3-year deal with Tennessee earlier this week after a decade in South Florida.

The 30-year-old Tannehill has been the Dolphins starting QB since he was drafted with the eighth overall pick of the 2012 National Football League draft out of Texas A&M.

Tannehill finishes his Dolphins career having thrown 123 touchdown passes and 75 interceptions with a 62.8 completion percentage and a passer rating of 87. He did not play in 2017 due to injury. Mariota has games in all four of his National Football League seasons for a variety of injuries, including knee, hamstring, arm and shoulder. He has rarely stayed healthy, and the Titans struggled last season with Blaine Gabbert at quarterback when Mariota was out. Now the Titans have multiple options, both for the short- and long-term.

Tannehill was a survivor in Miami, earning two contracts that paid him $67.6 million over the past seven years and playing under three head coaches and four offensive coordinators.

Tannehill, in all likelihood, was going to be released by the Dolphins this offseason, pending what they could figure out in the quarterback market. They have been actively examining quarterbacks in the 2019 National Football League draft class, and they seem to be a strong candidate to select a prospect in the first round of this year's draft or the next one.
