#trashtag: Viral challenge sends internet on a garbage hunt

Social media users have been encouraged to share their

The idea of this challenge or trend has been there since many years but it was just this weekend that this gained some importance and attention from the people when they started picking up the mess from their streets, parks and beaches, and posting the before and after pictures on the social media. It is called the Trashtag Challenge and it actually has a point and serves a objective.

"Trends like #trashtag allow people from all walks to be satisfied".

There's never any shortage of viral challenges doing the rounds, but the latest social media craze is of a rather more worthy nature than usual.

Facebook & Instagram Experiencing Worldwide Outages
A slew of Facebook -owned social media sites are experiencing a worldwide outage, leaving thousands of users unable to connect. According to the website Down Detector, the most common problems being reported are total blackout and log in issues.

The challenge is simple, with people encouraged to post before and after images of garbage-filled areas, using the hashtag to help spread the movement and inspire others to take a few minutes out of their day to pick up trash. Meanwhile, several users asked whether they could take up the challenge as well. It got nearly a new life as many youngsters joined along with more than 25,000 posts already on Instagram alone.

Though the hashtag has existed since 2015, it only boomed in popularity earlier this month, when Byron Román shared his own post on social media. With people from all over the world coming together in a cleanliness drive, it is a change the environment beckons. Unlike the risky 48 Hour challenge or Bird Box Challenge and the pointless (yet fun) Planking or 10 Year Challenge, the Trashtag Challenge gets people to clean up their communities.

Writing on Facebook on 5th March, he said: 'Take a photo of an area that needs some cleaning or maintenance, then take a photo after you have done something about it, and post it'.
