Trump's cuts to Medicare hospital payments met with backlash

Senior Republican eyeing Trump budget worries about U.S. debt

President Donald Trump's 2020 budget calls for $2.7 trillion in spending cuts over 10 years. By the looks of it, the budget is excruciatingly more than what the Pentagon wants to achieve.

But some of the Medicare cuts have received bipartisan support in the past, including halting hospitals from bumping up their Medicare payments by acquiring doctors' practices (a method CMS has tried to crack down in the past with its site-neutral payment proposals) and lowering spend on prescription drugs.

As explained by the Post, among the $8.6 billion that Trump seeks in his budget and money diverted through his National Emergency, the White House, "could complete at least 722 miles of barriers", at the border, enough to declare fulfilled his electoral promise.

Trump's proposals met with immediate criticism from the host of candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The administration proposes uniform work requirements for Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps), and certain housing programs.

"After exploding the deficit with his GOP tax scam for the rich, President Trump is once again trying to ransack Medicare, Medicaid and the health care of seniors and families across America", Pelosi, D-Calif., said in a statement.

As part of the spending-cut initiative, the administration also has identified a number of wasteful and ineffective programs, such as Job Corps.

Lewis Hamilton: Mercedes have 'work to do' as Ferrari threaten

Factoring in this change, Medicare spending would be $575 billion lower, said Marc Goldwein, senior vice president at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a think tank. He called the proposal "malicious".

When it comes to military spending, there is a 5 percent increase in the overall budget for the United States military. The department's total gross discretionary funding would go down to $44.1 billion in 2020 from this year's $52.8 billion. In addition, the budget would squeeze billions from state and local grant programs - throwing out the Community Development Block Grant program and others that provide financial aid for affordable housing. Now the only thing that people are going to witness is how the messages are going to appeal the voters.

"He's not cutting Medicare in this budget", asserted acting White House budget director Russell Vought.

"These cuts in the Trump budget aren't a tightening of the belt. And it's not fair to the people that have been paying in for years and now all of the sudden they want to. cut".

"Look at the 1980s, look at the 1990s", he said.

Neal, who has pledged to use his position has House Ways and Means chairman to protect Medicare, the federal health insurance program largely for people ages 65 and over, added that reaffirmed his commitment to "defending Americans' access to health care".

"If we're going to continue to spend recklessly while having policies that restrain growth, there's no chance to get out of the fiscal malaise we find ourselves".
