ABCWhoopi Goldberg makes a surprise visit to the set of ABC's

Goldberg revealed the full extent of her illness and how she nearly died: Double pneumonia and sepsis.

Goldberg first found out she had pneumonia when she went to the hospital with a 102-degree fever. You think because you've healed quickly before that something insane can't happen, Well, it can.

Behar previously told viewers about Goldberg's diagnosis during the February 20 broadcast while simultaneously debunking rumors that Goldberg would be the surprise host of the Oscars, which were just a few days away at that point.

"I said okay." After several days passed by with no progress, Goldberg said she asked her doctors what was going on. "I'm not there yet, but the only way it's going to get better is if I begin, so this is my beginning", said the 63-year-old. "If the doctor says this is what you need, I feel like you should listen to the doctor", Goldberg said. "I still have a cough and that's the last thing to go".

"You think you can push through because you got a little cold, you say, 'I'm just gonna keep going, keep going.' And you think because you've healed quick before that something insane can't happen".

"We missed you so much!" exclaimed co-host Meghan McCain. "I'm not dead. Here's what happened".

"I came very, very close to leaving the earth", Goldberg said on Friday. "And the people who are saying "no" to you are not doctors, they are people looking at algorithms".

"Ladies, I can not wait to see y'all", she added, addressing her fellow panelists. "But you have to stay in the hospital because the machine is only here, but we'll try to get it to your house".

Her illness was first addressed during the February 20 episode, as fans began to question where Goldberg was.

"You must really take care of yourself", she said. "She's actually recovering from pneumonia".

The moderator has been MIA after a brutal battle with pneumonia, but surprised everyone - including her cohosts - at the top of the show on Thursday. "She's getting there, she's on the mend".

"'I have to advocate for myself because clearly you are taking your cue from somebody who doesn't know what the doctor is telling me to do, '" Goldberg said she told the advocate.

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
