Ilhan Omars supporters rally outside Trump event in Minnesota

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders speaks during a press briefing at the White House

Rep. Ilhan Omar says she's faced increased death threats since President Trump spread around a video that purports to show her being dismissive of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Democratic leaders "should look at the anti-Semitic, anti-Israel and ungrateful US HATE statements Omar has made", he added. She said Muslims in America have lived as second-class citizens for far too long resulting in the founding of CAIR "because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to civil liberties".

Rep. Ilhan Omar said she has received an increased number of threats on her life since Donald Trump tweeted an altered video of the Muslim Minnesota congresswoman on Friday night interspersed with footage from 9/11.

"The president's words weigh a tonne, and his hateful and inflammatory rhetoric creates real danger", Pelosi said.

Earlier, politicians, activists and celebrities had joined an outpouring of support for U.S. congresswoman Ilhan Omar after President Donald Trump retweeted a video on Friday.

This development quickly attracted the attention of a number of social media users who apparently aren't too fond of the current U.S. president and his policies.

Referring to her previous controversial comments, in which Ms Omar questioned United States support for Israel, Ms Sanders added: "It's absolutely abhorrent the comments that she continues to make and has made and they look the other way".

After the Washington Post fact-checked the statement to clarify Cair was actually founded in 1994, a spokesman for Omar told the paper that she misspoke and meant to say the organisation's size had doubled after the attacks. This is endangering lives.

"Since the president's tweet Friday evening, I have experienced an increase in direct threats on my life-many directly referencing or replying to the president's video", Omar said in a statement. Like Ocasio-Cortez, she said on Twitter that any "elected leader who refuses to condemn it shares responsibility for it".

It was the first-ever National Hockey League fight for Svechnikov, who was selected second overall by the Hurricanes in 2018. Back in 2010, Ovechkin fought Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky in a December 12 game against the Rangers.

"It has to stop", Omar wrote in a tweeted statement.

In the latest incident, Trump posted a video to his 60 million Twitter followers that used a short snippet of an Omar speech followed by images of the burning Twin Towers in NY in 2001.

Omar said in a statement posted on Twitter Sunday that numerous increased threats she had received were "directly referencing or replying to the President's video". Omar made the comments at a Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) fundraiser.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders on Sunday defended Mr Trump against accusations that he was inciting violence against the Muslim congresswoman.

Omar has faced a slew of attacks and death threats in recent weeks, along with ongoing criticisms since she made scathing comments against Israel, and now with comments she made on the September 11 attacks.

She later sought to defend herself by tweeting a quote from President George W. Bush, in which the Republican president referred to the attackers as "people" just days after 9/11.

Neither Trump's tweet nor the video included Omar's full quote or the context of her comments. It remained lower in the feed after Pelosi requested that the video be pulled.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, left, and Rep. Ilhan Omar, attend a rally to introduce the 'Equality Act, ' on March 13. Democrats who criticized the president over the tweet defended Omar, with some noting their past disagreements with her. But she refused to take back a tweet in which she suggested American supporters of Israel "pledge allegiance" to a foreign country.

Jerry Nadler, a New York Democrat who represents Manhattan's financial district, which was targeted on 9/11, said he had no issues with Omar's characterisation of the attack. "I'll put a bullet in her [obscenity] skull". It's why Fox News hosts feel free saying "you have to wonder if she's an American first".
