Man held after child injured at Mall of America

A 5-year-old was hospitalized after an incident at the Mall of America in Bloomington Minn

A 5-year-old child suffered life-threatening injuries when, according to witnesses, a man either threw or pushed the child from the third floor of the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, police said Friday.

The suspect was chased down inside the mall and was taken into custody.

Potts said it does not appear the suspect, a 24-year-old male, had a relationship with the child or the child's family.

The 4.2-million-square-foot Mall of America is in Bloomington, about 10 miles south of Minneapolis.

A source at the scene tells WCCO that the person who threw, or possibly pushed, the child fled the mall and was apprehended near the light rail station.

Bloomington police Chief Jeffrey Potts said during a news conference that the boy fell almost 40 feet after a man who apparently didn't know the boy or his family threw him off the balcony Friday. But three months later he was accused of returning and throwing a glass at a woman in a mall restaurant.

Could the oil Industry in India See Higher Profits?
One of the issues for Indian oil companies is their requirement to sell below market to subsidize prices in their home country. The US pulled out of the agreement earlier this year as President Trump claimed he was looking for a better deal.

A witness says a woman screamed that her child was thrown from a balcony at the Mall of America in Minnesota.

"(Through) our investigative work and witnesses that we've spoken to, we feel confident saying that the suspect threw the child off of the third floor.

"Our officers initially responded and performed first aid on the child along with some other witnesses and passersby", Potts said. "Oh my God, my baby, someone threw him over the edge, '" Brian Johnson said. "The child did suffer significant injuries".

Mall of America officials said any more information about the incident will come from police. "Our thoughts and prayers are obviously with that child and his family in hopes that that child is able to recover".

Police said they do not believe the man to have been related to the victim. He says police don't have an idea about possible motive.

The Star Tribune reports that the child was being treated at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis. 'The child has been transported to the hospital and has been receiving care'.
