'Mary Tyler Moore Show' actress Georgia Engel dies at 70

Veteran Actor Georgia Engel Passes Away At Age 70

She was best known for her work as Georgette Franklin Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, on which she appeared from 1972 until the show ended in 1977.

Engel won two Emmy nominations for Moore's show and three for "Everybody Loves Raymond".

John Quilty, her friend and executor told The New York Times that Engel died Friday in Princeton, New Jersey. No cause of death has been revealed.

Engel was the daughter of a US Coast Guard admiral, and growing up she moved many times across the US.

She was also nominated for an Emmy for her recurring role on "Everybody Loves Raymond", where she played Pat MacDougall. She went on to join her Mary Tyler Moore Show co-star Betty White on White's self-titled CBS sitcom, and play a memorable role as Howard's wife Shirley on the ABC comedy Coach.

Engel's other acting credits included film appearances in Dr Dolittle 2, The Sweetest Thing and TV shows such as The Office and Two And A Half Men.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report the passing of veteran stage and screen actor, Georgia Engel.

U.S. screenwriter Phil Rosenthal, the creator of Everybody Loves Raymond, added: "To our dear sweet friend, we'll love and miss you and your brilliant talent always".
