Oil rig workers rescue dog 137 miles off coast of Thailand

The dog is rescued from the sea on April 12

The brown mongrel, christened Boonrod - "Survivor" - by its rescuers, was pulled from the Gulf of Thailand by workers on an oil rig.

He was warmly greeted by animal lovers from Watchdog Thailand and veterinarians.

The workers spotted the pup paddling near the rig Friday afternoon before it swam toward the platform and clung to a pole, Vitisak Payalaw, an offshore planner for Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production Ltd., told ABC News.

Oil rig worker, Khon Vitisak, who saved the animal, said he would like to adopt her if no owner comes forward. The four-member rescue team used a rope to harness the dog and pulled him to safety.

The dog stayed on the drilling platform for two nights while a special cage was welded together and staff gave it food and water.

"When we first took her on board she was depressed and exhausted from being in the water for a long time".

Orioles' Chris Davis ends his record-breaking hitless slump
It marked his first home run since blasting one against ex-teammate Zack Britton and the Yankees on August 24 of last season. Back in 2013, Davis won the Silver Slugger Award, when he put the entire league on notice with 53 homers and 138 RBI.

Oil rig workers and animal charities are baffled as to how she came to be swimming so far from shore.

He looked "exhausted" but the workers gave him water and fed him some mineral supplements, Payalaw wrote. The dog soon perked up and started to sit up and walk normally, he said. It is unknown whether the dog swam the astonishing distance from the shore, or jumped off a boat at sea.

"We just saw her small head", he wrote on Facebook.

"The boat arrived at 10am and the dog was in good spirits", the charity said.

Video footage also shows heartwarming moment the Boonrod arrived at the Songkhla pier in southern Thailand Monday morning, after which she was transported to a veterinary clinic to be checked out.
