Pulitzer Prizes awarded for coverage of gun violence, Trump

The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal were awarded Pulitzer Prizes on Monday for their separate investigations of President Donald Trump and his family.

Before Monday, only 41 special citation prizes had been awarded since 1930, and winners have ranged from individual people to organizations and groups, including the New York Times, writers E.B. White, Alex Haley and Kenneth Roberts, and Columbia University and its Graduate School of Journalism.

Special citations were awarded to soul legend Aretha Franklin for her contributions to music and to the staff of the Capital Gazette newspaper of Annapolis, Maryland, which lost five employees in a June 2018 shooting. The man charged in the attack had a longstanding grudge against the paper.

The Journal won its Pulitzer in national reporting for its investigations of hush money payments orchestrated by the president's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to silence women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump.

The Pulitzer Price for worldwide reporting went to Maggie Michael, Maad al-Zikry, and Nariman El-Mofty of the Associated Press for their coverage of the war in Yemen, and to Reuters journalists for stunning reports on the expulsion and murder of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

The Pulitzer for investigative reporting was awarded to three Los Angeles Times reporters for their coverage of George Tyndall, a gynecologist accused of abusing hundreds of students at the University of Southern California.

OnePlus 7 appears in renders, but where’s the pop-up camera?
Maybe that's the difference between the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro , also coinciding with the " Go Beyond Speed " moniker. Even though it is one of the most requested features by its community, the company is neglecting it for a long time.

Special citations have been awarded 45 times since the Pulitzers began in 1918, with Franklin's award coming as the 15th presented to a musician. And then you think of Aretha Franklin, who came out of gospel and brought into it popular music.

For literature, Richard Powers' novel The Overstory won the fiction prize, while David Blight's biography of Frederick Douglass won for the best work of history. The drama prize went to "Fairview", by Jackie Sibblies Drury, and Eliza Griswold's "Amity and Prosperity: One Family and the Fracturing of America" won for general nonfiction.

As reported by CNN, Aretha Franklin is officially a Pulitzer Prize victor.

Reuters also won for worldwide reporting for work that cost two of its staffers their liberty: shedding light on a brutal crackdown on Rohingya Muslims by security forces in Buddhist-majority Myanmar.

Fairview played sold-out runs at Soho Rep, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and Theatre for a New Audience. Composer and sound artist Ellen Reid won the music prize for "Prism", a look at sexual assault that premiered last fall at the Los Angeles Opera. Last year, Kendrick Lamarbecame the first hip-hop act to win a Pulitzer, making history and cementing his legacy.
