Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 730 & Snapdragon 730G

Qualcomm AI Day: Snapdragon 665, 730, 730G mobile platforms announced with focus on camera, AI and gaming

It's easy to dismiss announcements as this as of course they brought out new chips they do every year, or they're artificially reducing the capabilities so the higher end processors are more desirable, of course, they are, unfortunately, that's capitalism.

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 730G which is "optimized" for top games and capable of faster rendering (up to 15 percent faster than the Snapdragon 730). Successor to Snapdragon 710, the chipset comes with Kryo 470 octa-core CPU paired with Adreno 618 GPU. It is equipped with two "big" Kryo 470 (Cortex-A76) CPU which is an improvement from the Kryo 360 (based on ARM Cortex-A75) CPU on the 710. The Snapdragon X12 modem included on the 665 chipset can support download speeds up to 600 Mbps.

It brings support for the new Wi-Fi 6, known as ax, and also Qualcomm's X15 modem, which reaches speeds of 800 megabit per second, a good for the 700 series. Key, it has up to 15-percent faster graphics rendering over the Snapdragon 730, thanks to a faster clock speed for the Adreno 618 GPU.

The Snapdragon 730 can do things previously reserved for Series 8 chips found in phones like the Galaxy S10.

The Snapdragon 665 also features Qualcomm's 3rd-generation AI engine.

While most of the hardware specs of the Snapdragon 730G remain the same as the 730, there's one essential upgrade that should please gamers. The SoC comes with an octa-core design with four 2GHz Kryo 260 cores and four 1.8GHz Kryo 260 cores soldered onto an 11nm FinFET process.

Qualcomm says that the new AI engine offers up to 2X faster AI processing.

European Union leaders offer the United Kingdom a Brexit delay until October 31
After making her case, Mrs May left the meeting while the other European Union leaders discussed the proposal over dinner. Some leaders, like Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis, said Britain should have a year more to sort itself out.

Qualcomm has said that all the newly announced Snapdragon processors will be available on smartphones by mid-2019.

The Snapdragon 730 will be the first system-on-chip in Qualcomm's 7 series to include a tensor accelerator.

It also features improvements in other areas. And when the Snapdragon 730 is at work, it balances its workload across eight cores: two performance and six efficiency. The ISP powers up to a 36 MP single main camera or a 22 MP dual setup and 960fps 720p slo-mo video capture, as well as 4K HDR video Portrait mode.

Gaming: For gaming enthusiasts, Snapdragon 665 is created to allow users to play latest and popular games with fast frame rates, super smooth interactions, surround-sound audio and extremely realistic graphics.

The mobile platform is also Wi-Fi 6 ready for the latest generation in Wi-Fi connectivity. As part of the gaming experience, the surround sound audio experience is enhanced by both Qualcomm aptX Adaptive audio and Qualcomm Aqstic audio technology to deliver a smooth, crystal-clear audio experience.

However, there's also a "Jank Reducer" which Qualcomm claims will cut stutter by up to 90-percent in titles running at 30fps, along with Anti-Cheating Extensions.

In terms of optics, the SoC has the Qualcomm Spectra 165 ISP and supports a wide variety of features such as hybrid autofocus, Video Style Transfer, optical zoom and triple camera support for telephoto, wide and ultra-wide sensors.
