The Boston Marathon, one of the most prestigious 26-mile races in the world, was once again run in awful conditions with rain, wind and low temperatures making fast times hard.

Lawrence Cherono of Kenya emerged victorious in the men's race Monday, barely squeaking past Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia.

Other Maine runners with notable times were Robert Ashby, 50, of Brunswick, who placed third in his age group and 294th overall in 2:38:23; Evan Graves, 37, of Caribou in 2:44:20; and Julian Gazzelloni, 27, of Belgrade in 2:44:52.

A year after she withdrew from the Boston Marathon due to injury, Arroyo Grande native Jordan Hasay finished in third place at the marathon, according to a tweet from USA Track & Field.

Fauble and fellow American Jared Ward were also in the top 10, clocking 2:09:09 and 2:09:25 in seventh and eighth respectively.

After wins in Chicago and NY last year, 20-year-old Daniel Romanchuk secured men's wheelchair race victory in 1:21:36, while Switzerland's Manuela Schär was another to add to her series of World Marathon Majors wins as she won the women's wheelchair race in 1:34:19.
