US Navy sailor, Japanese woman found dead in Okinawa

U.S. serviceman kills a woman and himself in Okinawa Japan says

A US serviceman has fatally stabbed a Japanese woman and then killed himself in Okinawa, according to the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo, amid growing resentment about the presence of American troops in the prefecture.

"We are aware of an incident resulting in the death of an apparent U.S. Navy Sailor with III Marine Division and a resident of Okinawa", he said in an email.

Akiba said he was "extremely disappointed" by the events and asked for U.S. cooperation in the probe and efforts to stop this tragedy from repeating itself.

Police did not immediately comment on a perpetrator or release any names, but Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Takeo Akiba said the incident appeared to be a homicide-suicide, with the sailor having killed the woman.

Cassowary kills suspected breeder in Florida
A spokesman from the sheriff's office said "Initial information indicates that this was a tragic accident for Mr Hajos". A second call came from another person at the scene who reported a medical emergency involving a large bird, said Lt.

The two were found dead Saturday morning inside a six-story apartment building in the Kuwae district of Chatan, according to an Okinawa Prefectural Police spokesman.

The 32-year-old soldier and the 44-year-old woman, were found bleeding at the apartment on the southern Japanese island, a police spokesman said. Their deaths were confirmed later at the scene.

Although Okinawa makes up less than 1 percent of Japan's land space, AP said, it hosts about half of the 54,000 American troops stationed in Japan, and is home to 64 percent of the land used by US bases in the country. Local residents have always been frustrated with noise, accidents and crimes linked to the US bases.
