US, Russia 'share same objective' on North Korea: Mike Pompeo

During their remarks, Lavrov appeared to suggest that the two leaders could not agree on the issue of Iran and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, regarding the regime's escalating nuclear ambitions.

Lavrov defended Russia's position and said the threats Maduro's government is receiving from usa administration officials coupled with Guaido's seeming support for a foreign military intervention, "bear no relation to democracy".

While the European Union shares some US concerns about Iran, including over its involvement in the Syrian conflict, it still backs the 2015 nuclear deal, saying that it is in Europe's own security interests. He also was critical of US sanctions punishing countries doing business with Iran.

Hook also downplayed one point of contention with Europe: a new trade mechanism recently launched by Germany, France, and Britain to allow financial flows to be sent to Iran that would not violate USA sanctions.

"We fundamentally don't seek war with Iran", Pompeo said. "We want every country that's interfering in Venezuela to cease doing that".

Pompeo added that reports of US movement of over 100,000 troops to the region would be left up to the Department of Defense.

"We continue to fully support the nuclear deal with Iran, its full implementation", Mogherini said. Lavrov, however, hoped that those reports were "just rumors".

Pompeo arrived in Sochi on May 14 to meet with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

"We want every country interfering in Venezuela to cease doing that. We said we are open to any contacts and will wait for the specification of the proposal", Ushakov said.

"Democracy cannot be done by force. It's threats that we hear against Maduro's government, threats of the mouths of officials.this has nothing in common with democracy", argued Lavrov.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo shared information on "escalating" threats from Iran with European allies and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation officials during meetings in Brussels on Monday, the U.S. special representative for Iran said.

Iran last week announced it was suspending some of its commitments under the agreement, a year after US President Donald Trump withdrew from the accord and imposed swingeing sanctions on the Islamic republic - putting the deal in peril.

Felicity Huffman pleads guilty in college admissions scandal
Huffman has agreed to plead guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. Huffman later discussed the scheme in a recorded phone call with Singer, prosecutors had said.

"If such a proposal is received, we will respond to it in a positive way", he said.

Pompeo was set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin at his residence in Sochi later in the evening, for the countries' highest-level bilateral talks in almost a year.

Pompeo agreed that there are matters of mutual interest between the United States and Russian Federation, where both countries can work together productively.

The report by USA special counsel Robert Mueller did not find Trump's campaign team colluded with Moscow but did document widespread Russian attempts to influence the 2016 election.

Lavrov also denied any Russian interference in the US election.

The new diplomatic push followed the long-awaited report in the United States by investigator Robert Mueller which found that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 election but that the Trump campaign did not collude with Moscow, partially lifting a cloud that had hung over the mogul-turned-president for two years.

Lavrov hit back against "those who are inflating this topic" and saying of collusion: "It's clear that such insinuations are absolute fiction".

He added: "We hope this tumultuous situation will die down and we can finally move on to building a more professional and constructive dialogue".

Pomepo, however, delivered a warning to Russian Federation after Lavrov repeatedly denied Russian Federation ever meddled.

"Interference in American elections is unacceptable". He added that the US would not tolerate similar engagement in the upcoming 2020 election.

Pompeo warned Russian Federation not to meddle in the USA presidential election next year, calling on Moscow "to demonstrate that these types of activities are a thing of the past".
