Walmart Offering Next Day Shipping to Customers

Walmart aims at Amazon with no cost Day delivery

One-day shipping marks the latest salvo in a fight between two retailers that have consistently tried to outdo each other in everything from online order delivery to grabbing a bigger share of the online grocery market.

Walmart items range from diapers and laundry detergent to toys and electronics, with more assortments to be added.

The service will initially be available only in a select number of areas (Phoenix and Las Vegas for now and Southern California in the coming days), but the company says it will offer the service to roughly 75% of the country by the end of the year.

Walmart is rolling out next-day delivery beginning in Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Southern California, with plans to reach approximately 75% of the U.S. population this year. It will roll out gradually over the coming months, with a plan to reach approximately 75% of the US population this year, which includes 40 of the top 50 major USA metro areas.

"Contrary to what you might think, it will cost us less - not more - to deliver orders the next day", said Marc Lore, President and CEO, Walmart eCommerce U.S.

Window cleaners rescued from swinging scaffold atop 50-storey skyscraper
Macy said firefighters secured the scaffold with ropes as it dangled from a crane, 20-30 feet above the roof. The two men became stranded shortly before 7.45am on Wednesday outside the tower.

Retail giant Walmart Inc (NYSE: WMT) said Tuesday it will be able to offer 75 percent of the USA population a one-day delivery option by the end of the year.

There is no membership fee for the service, but there is a minimum purchase amount.

Two years ago, Walmart began offering free two-day shipping on millions of items on its website for orders of at least $35. This means the order ships in one box, or as few as possible, and it travels a shorter distance via low-cost ground shipping. It also said it will roll out the service to 75 percent of the US within the year. Everything in the cart must be eligible for next day delivery to qualify. Though it was not immediately made clear if those facilities would be used specifically for the NextDay offers launching this week, Walmart previously said they would be used to support faster local shipping times, including one-day deliveries. Cut-off times will vary by location, according to the company.

Walmart says the new delivery program has been in the works for a while. The retail already will also offer same-day delivery on groceries from 1,600 stores by year-end.
