Alex Morgan scores USWNT's 1st goal vs. Thailand

USA vs. Thailand in 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup: Live updates, TV channel, how to watch online

The US Women's National Team, it turns out, is pretty good at this soccer thing.

In what will go down as perhaps the most dominant performance in the history of the Women's World Cup, the United States started its title defense with an electric 13-0 win over Thailand.

She scored her 100th goal with the national team in April - not bad for a late-bloomer who didn't play club soccer until age 14. Alex Morgan had five goals, Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis scored two each, while Lindsey Horan, Carli Lloyd, Mallory Pugh and Megan Rapinoe added goals as well.

Morgan's hat-trick effort was a stylish goal, with quick feet winning her the space to fire in an excellent 15-yard finish, and Megan Rapinoe then finished smartly to end a fast break in style.

3m Sudan strikes bring country to standstill
On Monday most shops in the capital were closed on what was the second day of a nationwide campaign of civil disobedience called by the opposition.

The USWNT and Thailand last met in a 2016 friendly.

Mallory Pugh became the 32nd different player (excluding own goals) to score for United States of America at the Women's World Cup, only Germany have more different scorers in the competition's history (34). Lloyd has seven career goals in World Cup play, including three in the 2015 final against Japan.

On the Women's World Cup Twitter account on May 7, Federation Internationale de Football Association wrote that "You can still buy tickets for a few matches" - despite it now being apparent more than 70 per cent of games were not at capacity.

The USA will face Chile in Paris at 17:00 BST on 16 June, three hours after Thailand meet Sweden.
