Bloggers criticised for taking 'insensitive' photos at the Chernobyl site

Chernobyl is becoming a visitor hotspot because of a new HBO series

Taking to social media the show's creator Craig Mazin urged visitors to "comport yourselves with respect for all who suffered and sacrificed".

Reuters reports that one Chernobyl tourist agency has seen a 40 percent increase in bookings since the show aired on TV.

The writer and producer of the hit HBO series "Chernobyl" has called on visitors to the site of the nuclear disaster to show respect, after a series of inappropriate photos were posted online.

Mazin Tweeted "If you visit, please remember that a awful tragedy occurred here".

The site, near the city of Pripyat in northern Ukraine, has become an Instagrammers hot spot to capture the ideal "influencer" photo in a desperate bid for "likes" since the popular series' release.

A quick search under the Chernobyl hashtag on Instagram brings up dozens of photos of people provocatively posing in front of abandoned buildings, scorched buses, and in eerily empty dorm rooms, with one user posing half naked in a hazmat suit.

Apple Continues Talks With Intel Over Modem Acquisition
The Information estimates that a deal for Intel's German modem business could bring "hundreds" of modem engineers to Apple . Remember that Apple is now working on its own modem project, with plans to ditch third-party suppliers from 2022.

The accident killed 31 people instantly and forced tens of thousands to flee.

Estimates of deaths as a result of radiation released vary from 4,000 in a United Nations study up to 200,000 reported by a Greenpeace study. Once inside the exclusion zone, adventurers can explore the town of Pripyat, which was abruptly evacuated in 1986; stand under the Ferris wheel at the abandoned amusement park, and see the infamous nuclear reactor (safely enclosed in a steel structure to contain radiation) from an observation point 1000 feet away.

And unlike the initially suppressed devastation that still leaves parts of Ukraine soaked in radiation and put Europe under threat over 30 years ago, the data for the Jared Harris, Emily Watson and Stellan Skarsgård-led miniseries are nothing but good.

Much of the area has been open to tourists since 2011, but some sections, such as the "machine cemetery" of Rossokha village, remain off-limits. HBO is owned by AT&T subsidiary WarnerMedia, which also owns CNN.

And in March, officials from the Auschwitz Museum tweeted a reminder to visitors not to pose for photos at the former Nazi concentration camp where more than one million people were murdered.
