Four PL Players Make Forbes' Top 100 World's Highest-Paid Athletes

Messi beats Ronaldo in 2019 Forbes rich list

Endorsement income experienced an increase of 12.5% to $987 million this year.

Just a matter of days after missing out on the UEFA Nations League's Player of the Tournament award, Cristiano Ronaldo has been beaten to another honor, the top spot in Forbes' annual list of the world's highest-paid athletes.

Forbes calculates the athletes' earnings by adding up their prize money, salaries and endorsements between June 2018 and June 2019. Although the list consists of athletes consists of players from ten different sports, it is the NBA stars that are taking the lead with 35 basketball players in the top 100, headed by LeBron James (No 8; $89 million). On No. 2 is Cristiano Ronaldo, with total earnings of $109 million.

Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton and former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua are the highest earning British athletes, while number one Messi is one of 38 non-American athletes on the list, with 62 Americans in the top 100.

The fourth highest earner on the list was Mexico's middleweight boxing star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez with $94 million. Roger Federer (Tennis player) $141 million 6. His endorsements are worth $3 million.

The remaining $4 million (around Rs 26.5 Crores) comes from the captain's salary and victories on the 22 yards.

Among female athletes, the only one to emerge in the standings is the United States tennis player Serena Williams, with 25.7 million euros per year and a distant 63rd among the 100 published.
