John Dean 'Honored' To Be On Trump And Nixon's 'Enemies List'

Shots Fired Democrats Take Swipes At Jerry Nadler For Being A Total Disaster In Fighting Trump White House

Rep. Jerrold Nadler confirmed Monday that the House Judiciary Committee will "press pause" on its efforts to hold Attorney General William Barr in Contempt of Congress. Watch live in the player above.

The chairman of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee said on Monday that a deal had been reached between his panel and the Justice Department to turn over the underlying evidence of the Mueller report, avoiding a scheduled contempt vote for now.

The Justice and Commerce Departments rejected a subpoena from the House Oversight and Reform Committee for documents and testimony relating to the census, and Trump ordered his former communications director Hope Hicks and McGahn's former top aide Annie Donaldson to refuse to testify or supply documents to the Judiciary Committee.

When the committee threatened Barr with contempt of Congress charges, the White House responded by invoking executive privilege over the information in question. But a House vote will give them increased standing if they do decide to file lawsuits.

Barr has recommended that the White House assert executive privilege in that case, the legal doctrine that permits an administration to hide some of its internal workings. Democrats just want a do-over which they'll never get!' he asserted. Both have been told by Trump's White House lawyers not to testify.

Democrats have appeared to ramp up actions against Trump related to Mueller's investigation in an apparent attempt to draw attention to the special counsel's findings.

"If the Department proceeds in good faith and we are able to obtain everything that we need, then there will be no need to take further steps", Nadler warns the department. Napolitano said the deal was a threat to the president because the evidence being turned over was not merely the unredacted Mueller report, but documents used to create the report, including financial documents, interview transcripts, and wiretaps.

Pelosi said at a policy conference Tuesday that her "stock goes up" when President Donald Trump attacks her, as he did last week. He repeated it. And he pointed out very clearly, if we had had sufficient information to exonerate the president, he would have said so.

Dean told lawmakers there are "remarkable parallels" between Nixon and Trump's actions.

Right now, there are around 60 House Democrats who support an inquiry, a number that has risen in recent weeks but is still a fraction of the overall total of House Democrats.

Before Dean spoke to the House Judiciary Committee, Trump took the opportunity on Twitter to slam the former White House counsel under President Richard Nixon as a "sleazebag attorney".

Collins said to the witnesses before pivoting to Dean specifically: "This committee is hearing from the 70s and they want their star witness back".

In 1973, Dean testified before the Senate Watergate Committee against Nixon, and went on to serve four months in prison for his role in the Watergate scandal.
