Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt releases statement on Pat Bowlen

Broncos owner Bowlen dies at age 75

He served as the team's CEO until 2014, when he stepped down from day-to-day operations after announcing he was fighting Alzheimer's, a disease his wife, Annabel, was diagnosed with past year. Bowlen ceded control of the team to Broncos president Joe Ellis in July 2014, when he announced that he has Alzheimer's disease.

"On behalf of my family and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, we wish the Bowlen family and the entire Denver Broncos organization comfort and solace in this hard time". And during training camp this past August, the team raised more than $40,000 during its inaugural "Alzheimer's Awareness Day".

"Pat fostered a special bond with his players, encouraging them to be leaders not only on the field but also to be leaders in their community and in business".

According to ESPN, during Bowlen's tenure, the team had 21 winning seasons, more than any other franchise during that time, and the second-most playoff appearances at 18.

He had as many Super Bowl appearances (seven) as losing seasons, and the Broncos had a 354-240-1 record since he bought the team in 1984. Bowlen also helped negotiate the league's wildly lucrative television contracts while serving on the league's broadcasting committee.

Lucas Torreira finding life "very difficult" in England
"I don't know if there's a lot of things that I'm enjoying [in England] because I think I liked living in Italy more". The sun is a bit odd in these parts, we are not from here and we are used to always, or nearly always, the sun.

Perhaps his most long-lasting legacy, however, will remain with the Denver community itself. "His soul will live on through the Broncos, the city of Denver and all of our fans", the Bowlen family said in a statement.

For 19 years Bowlen served as the honorary chairman of the Colorado Special Olympics, and he's served in the same role for three decades with the Stadium Stampede (formerly the Colorado Family Classic) to benefit St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation.

"More important than being an incredible owner, Pat Bowlen was an incredible human being". "Even during his battle with Alzheimer's, you could still see that same strength and dignity in Pat that he brought to the office every single day for more than 30 years".

Bowlen was born on February 18, 1944, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and attended the University of Oklahoma, where he was a receiver on the freshman football team and later earned degrees in business and law.
