LabCorp discloses data breach affecting 7.7 million customers

More than 7 million LabCorp patients might have had their information stolen, feds say

The unauthorized access took place between August 1, 2018, and March 30, 2019, LabCorp said.

In order to respond to the breach, Quest Diagnostics has put the sending collection requests on hold to the American Medical Collection Agency system, said the statement. LabCorp disclosed that about 200,000 people also had their credit card or bank account information stolen. However, on June 3, the company said it has conducted an internal review, taken down its web payment platform and hired third-party security experts to investigate, reports WSJ.

The company said it has referred millionsof customers to AMCA for billing collections, and 7.7 million customers had their data stored in the hacked system.

The information on AMCA's systems included medical information and financial information, but AMCA had nothing to do with laboratory tests and, therefore, the tests were not impacted by the breach.

The compromised personal data "could include first and last name, date of birth, address, phone" and "credit card or bank account information", according to LabCorp's SEC filing.

Competition Heats up as China Issues 5G Licenses to Major Carriers
The companies will develop next-generation 5G networks in Russian Federation over the next year, media reports said Wednesday. In February past year , it made the world's first 5G call and launched the first 5G terminal device.

According to Pankaj Parekh, chief product and strategy officer at SecurityFirst, it is not enough to protect just your company's data, you must also understand the risk associated with sharing that data to third parties. AMCA told LabCorp that it was in the process of notifying those patients.

One important thing about this is that Quest Diagnostics says that patients' lab results were not part of the security breach. Warner pointed to apparent gaps in oversight, expressed concern about the impact of cyber-attacks on the health care sector, and conveyed his desire to work alongside stakeholders to develop strategies that strengthen information security.

"Quest is taking this matter very seriously and is committed to the privacy and security of our patients' personal information".

LabCorp added it had not yet been provided a list of the affected customers or other specific details about them. Anthem subsequently reached a $115 million settlement with victims.
