Trump reverses course, says 'of course' he would report foreign interference

A top Republican ally said Trump was wrong to say he would accept dirt on political rivals from foreign sources.

Trump, in an interview on Friday with "Fox & Friends", said he would "of course" look at the information in order to determine whether or not it was "incorrect".

President Donald Trump offered a scattershot defense of his comments on accepting help from Russian Federation in 2020 while appearing on Fox & Friends, claiming he would turn to the Federal Bureau of Investigation after considering what was offered. He added that he'd have no obligation to call the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

After this exchange Stephanopoulos repeatedly presses Trump on why he refused to answer Robert Mueller's question about obstruction.

The President directly accused his former White House Counsel, Don McGahn, of lying under oath in his testimony to the Mueller investigators.

McGahn was a crucial witness for Mueller, spending hours with investigators and offering detailed statements about episodes central to the special counsel's investigation into possible obstruction of justice.

She also quietly bankrolled a successful campaign to free 17 federal inmates serving life sentences for low-level drug crimes. Keeping up her track record of Very Good Suits, today's look included a strong-shouldered teal jacket with wide lapels.

"The story on that very simply, number one, I was never going to fire Mueller", Trump told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos in an extensive interview earlier this week. "I never suggested firing Mueller", he said.

In his report, Mueller cited McGahn as saying that the president called him multiple times in June 2017 to tell him to direct the Justice Department to remove Mueller because of conflicts of interest.

Replied Trump: "Because he wanted to make himself look like a good lawyer".

Previously, McGahn stated under oath the president continuously told him to have special counsel Robert Mueller removed due to perceived conflicts of interest and asked to create documents backing up that claim.

"Because they were looking to get us for lies or slight misstatements", Trump said.
