Turlock man among four Americans to die recently in Dominican Republic

U.S. authorities are scrambling to get to the bottom of a rash of deaths of United States tourists in the Dominican Republic, with the number of reported fatalities over the past year now rising to six.

Robert Wallace of Turlock, Calif., arrived at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino resort in Punta Cana with his wife on April 10 to attend his stepson's wedding but fell ill nearly immediately the day after. Miranda Schaup-Werner, a Pennsylvania woman, died nearly four weeks later, on May 25, after she had a drink from her minibar at another hotel, the Bahia Principe La Romana.

Wallace, who was reportedly urinating blood, died three days after falling ill at the resort.

Nathaniel Holmes and Cynthia Day, in a file photo, were found dead in their room at the Grand Bahia Principe La Romana on May 30, 2019.

Miranda Schaup-Werner, 41, booked a room with her husband at the Luxury Bahia Principe Bouganville hotel. They say they experienced headaches, nausea, cramping and diarrhea. "Out of respect for the privacy of her family, we have no further comment at this time".

A Turlock man is one of four Americans who have mysteriously died while vacationing in the Dominican Republic in the past few months. Sport's sister Felecia Nieves, in an interview with FOX29, said they were told Sport died from a heart attack.

"He was fine", Arnold said.

Alex Morgan scores USWNT's 1st goal vs. Thailand
She scored her 100th goal with the national team in April - not bad for a late-bloomer who didn't play club soccer until age 14. The USA will face Chile in Paris at 17:00 BST on 16 June, three hours after Thailand meet Sweden .

Maryland woman Dawn McCoy reported that her husband, David Harrison, died in similar circumstances almost a year ago at the same Hard Rock Cafe Wallace, according to Fox News.

The FBI is now investigating the recent outbreaks. "Things can happen. But right now we don't really know what's causing this and that's the biggest concern".

Other family members of American tourists then came forward, including Felecia Nieves, who said her sister, Yvette Monique Sport, died in June of a year ago at the Bahia Principe resort in Punta Cana.

Maria Hudson said she and her boyfriend were going to Punta Cana but axed the trip after reading about the deaths.

Those three deaths made headlines and put a spotlight on what now appears to be a yearlong pattern, according to the New York Post. Garcia also said there were inconsistencies between the woman's account of the events during the day of the attack, and her husband's account.

It wasn't clear if Holmes and Day drank from the minibar, and their deaths were attributed by officials to respiratory failure.

Meanwhile, Colorado couple Kaylynn Knull and Tom Schwander told CNN that they suffered from headaches, abdominal cramps and diarrhea after encountering a strong smell of chemicals in the La Romana hotel in June 2018.
