Angels honor Tyler Skaggs with no-hitter, amazing game

Los Angeles Angels

Mike Trout, like all Angels players on Friday night wearing Skaggs' No. 45, homered. Skaggs' mother, Debbie, delivered the ceremonial first pitch to Angels pitcher Andrew Heaney-throwing a picture-perfect strike down the middle that, as Cole put it, set the tone for the rest of the night.

The last Angels no-hitter before Friday's gem was Jered Weaver's solo no-no in 2012.

The Angels were somber as they returned from the All-Star break for their first home baseball game since the 27-year-old Skaggs died in Texas on July 1. "I feel like we have an angel looking down on us".

ANAHEIM, CA - JULY 12: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim players lay their jerseys on the pitchers mound after they won a combined no-hitter agasint the Seattle Mariners at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on July 12, 2019 in Anaheim, California.

"For us, it's emotionally therapeutic", said Heaney, Skaggs' best friend and fellow starting pitcher.

Japan, S.Korea officials meet amid flap
He said South Korean officials protested that Japan was providing only "very abstract" reasons for its stricter export controls. South Korea uses some of the materials to manufacture semi-conductors, which make up a substantial portion of its exports.

"That was one of the special moments I've been a part of on a Major League field", Angels manager Brad Ausmus said in his post-game interview. "That's how it's always going to be for all of us".

The Angels then battered Seattle starter Mike Leake in a surreal seven-run, eight-hit first inning highlighted by Mike Trout, who has been relentless at the plate ever since Skaggs' death. I'm speechless. This is the best way possible to honor him tonight. You walk by his locker every day.

Skaggs would have turned 28 Saturday, a fact that was not lost on Trout as he reviewed the game. They had no doubt of a strong first pitch by his mom, a longtime softball coach at Santa Monica High School.

Pena got some help in the sixth inning when third baseman made a diving stop to glove Mac Williamson's grounder and throw him out at first. Trout drove in the first two runs of the inning with a homer and the last two with a double. After an uncommonly slow trot around the bases, Trout pointedly looked up in the direction of Skaggs' family in the stands.

Even the Angels' bats did their part to honor Skaggs. But (after) tonight, when you think of Tyler, think of the day we wore his jersey to honor him and honor his family and honor Carli.
