Arsenal star refuses to join club on USA tour

Laurent Koscielny

The Arsenal captain has one year left on his current deal but has made clear his desire to leave north London by ignoring the club's "clear instructions" to report for their pre-season tour.

Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel to the United States with the rest of the squad for pre-season.

The Frenchman was expected to be part of the squad flying to the U.S. on Thursday but the club have now said the 33-year-old will stay behind.

Bordeaux are understood to have already offered him a lucrative two-year contract with an option of a third.

Should an actual offer come in for Koscielny this summer, then they would consider it, but so far there have been no official bids submitted for the defender.

Koscielny, 33, arrived with no luggage and immediately met with the club's new technical director Edu - who is on his first day in the new job.

Ross Perot's life in pictures
Perot has obviously changed my life, he has changed Texarkana College's life, he has changed this community's life and future". The pioneer of the computer services industry, who founded Electronic Data Systems Corp.in 1962 and Perot Systems Corp.

Arsenal says it was working to resolve the matter.

Koscielny, who joined Arsenal from French outfit Lorient in 2010, is believed to have attracted interest from the likes of Bordeaux, Olympique Lyon and Stade Rennes.

The Gunners begin their pre-season campaign against Colorado Rapids on July 16 before facing Bayern Munich, Roma and Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup.

Koscielny's future is now in doubt ahead of the season opener at Newcastle on August 11 and the situation may leave Arsenal needing to recruit another centre-back in the transfer window.

It appears there will be opportunities for a number of young players, including new teenage signing Gabriel Martinelli.
