EU pondering measures against Turkey drilling in E. Med

Turkey rejects claims it is drilling illegally for gas off Cyprus

European Union diplomats are meeting in Brussels on Wednesday to discuss any possible sanctions on Turkey over the drilling before European Union foreign ministers meet on Monday.

These measures are amongst a variety of proposals that EU authorities' envoys will focus on Wednesday in Brussels and will restrict the European Investment Bank's sovereign-backed lending in Turkey and make sure a lower of some 146 million euros ($163 million) in help for next year, in line with a person accustomed to the matter.

The Israeli response to drilling by Turkey in the eastern Mediterranean in waters Cyprus says are inside its Exclusive Economic Zone comes just a day after the U.S. State Department urged Turkey to halt the project, and two days after Cyprus objected to a Turkish ship dropping anchor in the area.

The European Council said on Monday it was considering "appropriate measures" and would respond "in full solidarity with Cyprus" in light of the second exploration.

It added that the European Union would be ready to introduce more restrictive measures against Turkey should Ankara continue drilling.

Appeals court dismisses Trump emoluments case
The Trump International Hotel is located on Pennsylvania Avenue, just four streets from the White House. The panel of three judges decided that D.C. and Maryland "lack standing" to continue with their case.

"It would only be targeting people linked to these specific illegal activities".

The EU depends on Turkey to keep a lid on migration from the Middle East to Europe, and for security matters, but the relationship has turned sour over President Tayyip Erdogan's sweeping crackdown on critics following a failed coup in 2016.

"Some member states rely on Turkey for energy transit so we must tread carefully".

The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has repeatedly warned global oil companies commissioned by the Greek Cypriot government not to participate in the search for underwater deposits. The move allows residents of the internationally recognised south and the breakaway Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to use their mobile phones on both sides of the Mediterranean island.
