Tottenham hijack Arsenal's Saliba deal

William Saliba is being chased by both north London clubs

It seems that Tottenham really is as serious as you can get in wanting to snatch St Etienne defender William Saliba from under the noses of Arsenal.

The Gunners have been eyeing the 18-year-old for the majority of the window but it is believed Spurs have offered a better deal than their rivals.

However, in a potentially huge blow to Arsenal, both from a football and a pride perspective, RMC's Mohamed Bouhafsi has shared information on Twitter about a late Spurs offer for Saliba that eclipses the bid submitted by the Gunners.

Koscielny joined Arsenal from French club Lorient.

And earlier this month, the president downplayed concerns about how migrants are being treated at the facilities. He said they were given three hot meals a day from local restaurants, as well as juice and crackers.

The youngster is expected to continue his development at Saint-Etienne for a further season as the Ligue 1 outfit are demanding a loan to be included in the deal, which could ultimately benefit Tottenham if they were to acquire him. Saint-Etienne and Arsenal had agreed a deal, just not payment structure/bonus clauses.

Arsenal are also pursuing Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, 22, and hope to recruit a central midfielder and winger.

And the deal agreed would have allowed them to secure the France under-20 international's signature but also concentrate the bulk of their funds on players to immediately improve their squad, with Bondy-born Saliba only arriving in 12 months' time.

Toby Alderweireld, who is into the final year of his contract, has been linked with a move away from Tottenham, with the centre-back having been linked with Manchester United and Roma.
