Ashkin wins half of the prize for his development of "optical tweezers" which have allowed tiny organisms to be handled with light beams. Dr. Mourou and Dr. "We need to celebrate women physicists because we're out there, and hopefully in time it'll start to move forward at a faster rate". On Monday, two immunologists, James Allison of the USA and Tasuku Honjo of Japan, won this year's Nobel Medicine Prize for research into how the body's natural defences can fight cancer. (more...)

Japan's intrepid, hopping asteroid rovers have sent back footage and high-resolution imagery of the surface of the celestial body they have been exploring, according to tweets from Japan's space agency. "Each of the rovers is operating normally and has started surveying Ryugu's surface", JAXA said in a statement. The agency made history on Sunday by successfully landing the two unmanned rovers on Ryugu. (more...)

The researchers noted that Ledumahadi mafube is closely related to giant dinosaurs from Argentina, which were alive at around the same time. The fossil of the Ledumahadi mafube revealed several other interesting tidbits, such as the "incredible robustness of the limb bones", according to Blair McPhee , the lead author of the study on the dinosaur that was published in the Current Biology journal. Hayabusa2 sample-return mission dropped the two almost identical rovers, named Minerva-II1A and Minerva-II1B, onto the surface of Ryugu on September 21 . "I can not find words to express how happy I am that we were able to realize mobile exploration on the surface of an asteroid". The British Divers Marine Life Rescue has been monitoring the situation. A beluga whale has been spotted in the Thames, between Gravesend in Kent and Tilbury in Essex. Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society spokesman Danny Groves said: "This one is thousands of miles from where it should be ". A Beluga whale was last spotted in the United Kingdom in 2015 off the coast of Northumberland, and sightings are said to be " extremely rare ". (more...)

After initial analysis, scientists came to know that it was an interstellar visitor from deep space and the mysterious object was named " Oumuamua ", which means " messenger from afar arriving first" in the Hawaiian language. "The two additional candidates met 'Oumuamua 1.1 and 6.3 million years ago, respectively, at intermediate speeds and distances". According to the 5:00 a.m. advisory, the center of Tropical Storm Kirk was located near latitude 11.8 North, longitude 52.7 West. Kirk is moving toward the west near 18 miles per hour (30 km/h).
