The area will bring moisture, and subsequently, rain into Central Florida, regardless of whether it becomes a storm. Upon receiving the meteorite, Sirbescu evaluated it and discovered it was an iron-nickel meteorite, composed of 8 to 8.5 percent iron and 11.5 percent nickel. A United States farmer and his son saw a shooting star come crashing onto their property one night in the 1930s. He kept it for 30 years - also using it as a doorstop and sending it to school with his children for show and tell. (more...)

This 22-pound doorstop is also a meteorite valued at about $100,000. " It's the most valuable specimen I have ever held in my life, monetarily and scientifically ". After testing, she determined it was a meteorite, made of of 88.5% iron and 11.5% nickel. Sirbescu sent a small sample to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC for further analysis where it was estimated the meteorite could be worth around $100,000. (more...)
