- February 09, 2019

NASA has said goodnight to its two experimental CubeSats , sent into space to monitor America's InSight probe as it landed on Mars , after failing to communicate with the gizmo duo since January. Another possibility is that their brightness sensors malfunctioned, meaning they won't be able to determine where the sun is. They are in orbit around the sun and the farther they are, the more hard it would be to contact them. (more...)

Milky Way is warped and twisted, not flat Milky Way is warped and twisted, not flat
- February 05, 2019

Professor Richard de Grijs, one of the astronomers from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, said: 'We usually think of spiral galaxies as being quite flat , like Andromeda , which you can easily see through a telescope'. This is where hundreds of billions of stars can be found - together with a huge mass of dark matter . But as you move toward the outermost reaches of the galaxy, the gravitational glue of the centre fades. (more...)

Climate change will dramatically alter colour of Earth's oceans Climate change will dramatically alter colour of Earth's oceans
- February 04, 2019

The researchers also simulated the way phytoplankton absorb and reflect light, and how the ocean's color changes as global warming affects the makeup of phytoplankton communities. By looking at these measurements, the level of cholorophyll can be determined, which could be due to global warming or weather-related phenomena, such as an El Niño or La Niña, Dutkiewicz said. Bedin-1 is a small dwarf galaxy not unlike some of the other small dwarf galaxies that orbit the Milky Way , with one big exception: It's really far away from pretty much everything else. Not only is this dwarf galaxy old, it's also remarkably isolated and undisturbed. Almost all the stars astronomers measured in Bedin 1 are small and old, implying the dwarf galaxy made all its stars in a single burst of activity some 10 billion years ago. (more...)
