The ministry's statement said reporters Wa Lone, 31, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 27, were charged under the Official Secrets Act for allegedly attempting "to send important security documents regarding security forces in Rakhine State to foreign agencies overseas". In its annual survey of journalists in jail published on December 13, the New York-based media watchdog found 262 journalists behind bars around the world in relation to their work, a new record after a historical high of 259 past year. The CPJ census shows that Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan each imprisoned one journalist.
