Iraqi troops, police and special forces, allied with the Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary coalition , took control of all districts inside Tal Afar on Sunday, a week after launching their latest offensive against an IS stronghold. Most of the city's 200,000-strong population had fled after IS seized it. Until its takeover by IS, Tal Afar was largely populated by Shia Turkmen, whose beliefs are considered heretical by the Sunni jihadists of IS. (more...)

It came as three mountain climbers were killed while climbing a glacier in the Italian Alps. Apparently, one member of the group slipped and fell on a glacier, bringing the others down with him. Shells hit islands standing in for South Korea's Baengnyeong and Yeonpyeong islands while special forces landed in rubber boats or parachuted in and "wiped out the desperate enemy with various combat methods", the Korean Central News Agency said.
